Senior Foundation Inc. Johnson City July 5, 2025
In 1985 a small group of individuals thought that it would be a promising idea to find a way to support the Johnson City Senior Center programs and the seniors who utilized the center. They developed a non-profit, at that time called the Johnson City Senior Center Foundation, which over the 30 years became the Senior Foundation Inc. Johnson City. The Senior Foundation Inc. Johnson City is in the process of requesting State approval to dissolve our non-profit Foundation.
Over the past 30 years, the Foundation has hosted various fundraising events, including dances, races, dinners, golf, and pickleball tournaments. We raised funds to purchase much needed Buses to transport seniors to area events. Our signature program has been the annual distribution of food and household items to seniors who are homebound or in need. This effort has grown from 40 to over 200 recipients per year. The generous donations and support from the community have enabled many outstanding accomplishments for the past 30years.
The generous donations and support from the Johnson City and Tri Cities community have enabled many outstanding accomplishments.
The volunteer Foundation board has included numerous community members over its 30-year history. They have given generously of their time and resources with one goal, to help support area seniors and assure that there are facilities such as the Johnson City Senior Center to provide services and support.
Times have changed and over the past few years the economy has made it increasingly difficult to compete in fundraising as well as attracting board members that can provide the time and effort to maintain the Foundation. After extensive discussion, the Senior Foundation Inc. acknowledges that this past year has been challenging and reached a decision to dissolve the foundation. We will no longer operate as non-profit, but our remaining funds will continue to support the Johnson City Senior Center. Thru and arrangement with the Johnson City leadership we have allocated our reserve to support selected Senior Center programs for the next 3 to 5 years.
The current members of the Senior Foundation Board, Rebecca Hennessee, Charlie Hough, Alice Spurling, Sandy Greer, Chris Abla, and Christa McDavid and I have explored our options and believe in the founding principles of the Foundation, that of service to seniors in need and individually we all will continue to pursue ways to be of service to our area seniors.
The commitment of the individuals who founded this non-profit organization was to support the Seniors who attend the Johnson City Senior Center, and our hope is that the community will continue to do so.

President, Senior Foundation Inc. Johnson City
